2012 Div. III Massachusetts State Champions. |
In this class I hope to learn some basic computer skills for a variety of usefull computer programs.
The blog that intrests me and one that I read quite regularly is Barstool Sports. I am from the Boston area so I usually read the Boston page, but the popular sports blog has grown over the years and now hase pages dedicated also to New York, Phillidelphia, and Chicago. The are probably the three biggest sports cities in the Eastern United States. The blog was orginally founded by David Portnoy, more commonly known as Pres, he was born and raised in Massachusetts, and has gained a net worth of about $2 million according to Celebrity Networth. Although it started as a local sports blog and a little bit of a smut blog it has grown into a very well known blog throughout the United States. The people who follow the blog are known as the Stoolies and cam be seen at most major sporting events sporting their "Viva La Stool!" signs. To some this blog may just be a smut blog and it does not always carry the highest grade classiest stories but there have been many stories that have broke from this website and it is here where you can gain a true Boston fans perspective about the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics.

Terry Francona’s New Book Makes It Seem Like Ownership Only Cares About Money, Ratings and Public Image So What Do They Do? Hire Pedro Martinez Of Course!
BOSTON — Pedro Martinez is coming back to the Red Sox as a special assistant to general manager Ben Cherington. The club announced Thursday that their former icon — considered by some to be the best pitcher in Red Sox history — is coming back. “We are very excited to have Pedro on board with us and back in the Red Sox organization,” said Cherington. “He was one of the game’s most dominant pitchers and without a doubt a beloved figure in Red Sox history.” …”I am thrilled to be returning to this organization and to the city I love,” Martinez said. “Ben Cherington’s meetings this week have been outstanding. It is an honor to be back with the Red Sox and help in any way I can. I am grateful to our leaders; I believe in them, and I thank them for allowing me to return to the field and help us win again. My heart will always live in Boston.”
I should be happy about this. I love Pedro. Among all the Boston athletes I’ve gotten to see in my lifetime, he’s on the Mount Rushmore, no question about it. Not to mention being one of the most fascinating sports personalities we’ve ever seen. Pedro was more entertaining in his second language than 99.9% of other ballplayers are in their first. He’s bright. We have every reason to think he understands baseball. So why isn’t this move sitting right with me? I mean, what’s it to any of us who’s changing the Poland Springs bottles and clearing the paper jams in Ben Cherington’s office? Why not Pedro? What is it about this announcement that’s eating at me?
It’s because it was made by this ownership. Hiring Pedro just reeks of being another one of those cynical, PR-conscious moves they’ve been force-feeding us for years now. Like all the 100th Anniversary of Fenway-apoloozas they put on or honoring the 2004 Championship for no reason at all. Just more of the same transparent, feel-good horseshit to take our minds off the fact they haven’t made a sound baseball decision in forever. You hear the excerpts coming out from Shaughnessy’s book about Francona, and a pattern emerges. It becomes obvious that this is what their focus is on. Little publicity stunts to get them good press and keep the public ignorant and happy and watching NESN. The offseason has been a disaster and everyone knows it so they throw Pedro to us like a fish and hope we’ll slap our fins together and bark. Our new 1st baseman has two generative hips but… LOOK! Over there! Pedro is back and his heart lives in Boston! Buy some tickets!
I could be wrong and maybe Pedro will turn out to be the next baseball executive and Brad Pitt will play him in a movie. But it just goes to show how unlikable this ownership is that I can’t even enjoy having one of my all time heroes as Special Assistant General Manager. Special Assistant TO the General Manager:

Ben, I too played baseball in high school. Varsity for 3 years but I'm still jealous of what you achieved. Winning a state championship was really a dream of mine. In my town, Baseball gets the attention of everyone, especially the male teachers. Our town also had been very successful in the past. The furthest we ever got was a district title game, in which we ended up losing. As for the Barstool sports, I'm always on their reading their hysterical articles. Some of them we can't discuss on here because of appropriateness but I think people get the idea. I know whenever we hangout we're always talking about something sports related, whether its the Sox, bar stool, or our greatest memories playing Baseball. That's what I like about you and how we have so much in common. Hopefully, as our experience here at Nichols continues, our friendship does too.
ReplyDeleteBen, as your fellow teammate, I may not necessarily know the feeling about winning a state championship, but I do know the feeling of being a contributing part to a team that had the potential and the offensive production to win it all. I was part of my high school's varisty baseball program since I was a sophomore. I've seen the "Big Time". I've felt the playoff magic and the playoff woes. Being eliminated from the State Finals game, knowing that you were one game from the state championship, is a terrible feeling. Knowing that a championship ring was there and you couldn't achieve it is devastating. In my town, both high schools pride themselves on their baseball programs. Our rivalry is somewhat similar to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. There is always tension when we play each other. I'm envious of your accomplishments and hopefully we enjoy our Nichols Baseball season!
ReplyDeleteHey, Ben I am from Lynnfield bordering your town. It is cool to find people that go to this school from our area because i rarely see people near us. I am pretty sure your baseball team beat us in the state championship too. I was at that game and it was very intense. I was with the guy yelling at the ump when you guys unfairly switched batters in your line-up to win the game. Just kidding, but hope you have a nice season.
